Your First Step to Support Starts Here
Everyone deserves support—and getting it shouldn’t be complicated. As a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC), we provide inclusive, whole-person care for every individual in our community.
Call 269-657-5574 or toll-free at 1-800-922-1418—our Access Team is here to listen and guide you toward the support you need.
Every call is private and confidential—and it’s the first step in helping us understand your needs, concerns, and the personalized support you’re looking for.
Request Services
Many people struggle with mental or emotional health problems every year—you’re not alone. If these problems aren’t treated, they can make it hard to go to work, do well in school, or enjoy time with family and friends. The most important step is to reach out for help. We’re here to listen and support you.
To request services and support, we invite you to call our Van Buren Community Mental Health (VBCMH) Access Team at 269-657-5574 or toll-free at 1-800-922-1418. The team is available Monday through Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm, to help you take the first step. The Access Team assists with requesting support, checking eligibility, completing assessments, providing crisis intervention, and making referrals.

Referrals
We take referrals from many places, including doctors and other health providers, law enforcement, attorneys, the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), schools, employers, and more. Individuals may also self-refer themselves (for example, you contact us direct to let us know you need support without being recommended by a doctor) or be referred by a family member.
Payment for Services / Non-Discrimination Clause
Van Buren Community Mental Health does not deny services based on an individual’s inability to pay for services.
Services are based on eligibility and payment is based on what you can afford. We will help you to determine your needs and conclude whether your treatment will be covered. No individual will be denied access to support due to inability to pay; and there is a discount/sliding fee schedule available based on family size and income.
To determine your fee, a review of requested documents along with information you provide will be reviewed (proof of income is required). In general, you’ll be asked to provide information about any sources of income or health insurance that may cover support. All financial information will be held in the strictest confidence. Once a fee has been determined, you also can ask for a review of your determined fee if you do not agree with the amount you are asked to pay. If you fail to provide insurance information, you may be at risk of being charged services that might otherwise be covered.
VBCMH does not discriminate based on race, color, sex, national origin, disability, religion, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, inability to pay or Medicaid/Medicare CHIP status. If you feel you qualify for the sliding fee scale, or if you would like to have your service fee re-determined, please notify a member of our Access Team at 269-655-3333.

If you're in a mental health crisis, you don’t have to wait for a referral, eligibility, or an appointment. Crisis support is available right away by calling our 24/7 Crisis Line.
